This calculator will make a rough cut at computing what it will cost you during the first year you decide to carry, assuming you're starting from scratch (no existing equipment that's suitable).

The gun will be your single biggest expense. However, with careful shopping, a used snubby revolver in .38 special can be had for around $250.

The belt is more important than anybody believes at first, if you're carrying the gun in a belt holster of any sort. Get a good one. Streicher's has the Galco belts or equivalent for the lowest price ever seen, $40.
