Repeal Concealed Carry NOW!
GunFreeZones.com ... is a pro-gun site that keeps a database of businesses that have banned guns. I'm not sure what their point is, but I suggest using the site to learn which businesses you should patronize!
The folks (actually, one person) at "http://www.repealconceal.org" have been having a hissy fit over the passage of the Minnesota Personal Protection Act, which mainstreamed Minnesota's handgun carry law, bringing it in line with the vast majority of the states. Now, in Minnesota, carry permits are issued as a matter of right, not of bureaucratic fiat.
Part of the bill was the posting language, which — for the first time — enables businesses to make an official request to permit holders not to carry their handguns into a business. Those who do walk past the signs, and are personally requested not to carry there, face a $25 fine. To the best of my knowledge, so far, no fines have been issued.
So what are the "repeal conceal" folks on about here? The folks at http://www.gunfreezones.com have been putting together a database of posted businesses. Out of the tens upon tens of thousands of businesses in Minnesota, roughly 200 have, it appears, posted signs. (Many of those signs, by the way, are not in compliance with the law, and are legally meaningless. But that's for another day.)
It doesn't require a keen eye for the obvious to figure out what the gunfreezones point is, but, let's face it, the antis don't have a keen eye for the obvious.
Let's try two points:
1. Only a tiny percentage of businesses are worried enough about permit holders to ask them to take their business elsewhere — something that, by the way, the permit holders I know are happy to do.
2. The signs are already starting to come down. Despite the hysteria of the antis, the new law is working just fine.
